In-game history

The gun was most commonly seen in The Man with the Golden Gun gametypes. A modern equivalent to this gametype would be a Halo-style Juggernaut match with a single player having a large advantage over the other players. The only difference is that the player in possession of the Golden Gun must rely on accuracy and speed to get away from opponents after making a kill. He is not permitted to pick up any armor while in possession of the weapon, and is therefore more vulnerable to an en masse attack from all players.

While maybe players cry foul when slayed by the weapon due to it's utter dominance. Other players claim it forces a player to develop accuracy and maneuvering, as opposed to the run-and-gun nature of the original game. It will forever be a "love it or hate it" weapon.

Armor controversy

There is a significant amount of debate over the status of armor in the alpha stages. As of alpha versions 1.0-1, the player in possession of the Golden Gun is permitted to pick up armor. This has created some outcries for balance adjustment considering inhumane kill-streaks obtained by some players.

Weapon history

It is the signature weapon of super-villain Francisco Scaramanga. Throughout it's existance, it has taken on several forms:

  • In Fleming's original novel "The Man With the Golden Gun", the golden gun is a gold-plated .45 calibre revolver;
  • However, for the film, it was a single-shot weapon that fires a custom made .42 calibre golden bullet.

The instant kill technology relies on the bullet shattering upon impact. This is based on a type of bullet known as the frangible, which splinters and disintegrates on impact to prevent exit wounds. Scaramanga uses such a weapon to emphasize his dominance as an expert pistol marksman—the fact that he only needs one bullet to kill a target. To avoid detection and theft, the gun also separates into a gold cigarette lighter, a gold cigarette case, a gold cuff link, and a gold pen.
