Third Party Stuff

OK. So I got really confused. It started when a few articles were made by the names of Scaramanga and Nick Nack, these articles were made by -[JS]- dudes and were meant to be nothing more than villian bios for the clan. These articles were then edited as 'third party ideas' which was never the case for the articles, and more articles were created in the same fashion: Then this is where it got hairy, the addition of all the bond actors and also a few others like blofeld and diana rigg. I didn't know if these were being designed by devs in the background, if it was designed by someone non-dev and therefore third party. The design document says 'feel free to give ideas but they can get sacked'. What should be the line here? Also, what if the beef of the articles are copied from a wikipedia article but the article on here includes wikipedia sources? I see that there are new character articles that have either 'Third Party Suggestion' or 'Third party design'. I wasn't sure if people were working on these or not and I don't think it's probable for a lot of these to be designed as there are bigger fish to fry. I also think it could be hard to differentiate actual dev projects between third party ones. I got confused and started doing things in a frenzy, and I apologize for that, but what should be the line here? Comments? -Xanatos

The DesignDocument is for GoldenEye Source. We need to have a useful/valuable/to-the-point information when we go to implement things. I don't mind having backgrounds on some things, but backgrounds on characters are not design elements unless they need to be reviewed before being modeled, animated, etc... Copying information from other wiki's about backgrounds and having 6+ pages for 'James Bond' is definitely not helping us when we go to implement. The James Bond information is great to have, but perhaps each page could be summariz into 3sent, and have only 1 James Bond Design page. At the bottom you could section off James Bond Background Information, and sub-section that with each person. The point being, *if* someone wanted to read that, they could look below the actual design plan and read backgrounds. But the backgrounds only mean so much when we develop the game... Short & Simple! --Scott
I'll go through and add summarizes and break the background stuff off. I do think the background information will be useful in the future, particularly when it comes to third party level ideas. Fro 08:24, 5 August 2006 (PDT)
Perhaps all third party projects shouldn't be in the design document, and only in their third party category? The design document articles should be done deals, meaning that they are currently being worked on in some fashion. -Xanatos
I think that will work. --Scott
I moved those out of the design document category and characters category. The confusion started when some JS people added Scarmaga and Nick-Nack into the "Design Document", so I cleared that up by adding it to the "Third Party Design" category. I've now removed those and the characters I added yesterday so that they're only in "Third Party Design". They're suggestions to the developers on characters I think people would enjoy playing as. Not all of the characters are just suggestions to the developers though, some of them like Jaws are actually being worked on and therefore are Design Documents and not Third Party Designs. - Nowhere
Yes, I left all the characters that Scott added originally where they are. I suspect some like "All Bonds" will move back at some point as well, but I wanted to reconfirm that those were in the ultimate plan. Fro 08:24, 5 August 2006 (PDT)
Fro, while third party ideas are accepted, what you were doing is close enough to spam. It's irrelevant to the design document ESPECIALLY at this point in time when the goldeneye essentials are still in progress and quite frankly 90% of the stuff you have added here has no chance to be added in the future and moreso at this point in time. So please, leave them in the third party category. -Xanatos
I think you missed everything that he just said. He moved them all out of the DD category into the Third Party category. - nowhere
I was simply explaining. You make a lot of assumptions. -Xanatos
Explaining what though? You're explaining him to do something he did. He wasn't the one who created most of the character pages, just filled them after people created them and then just left them there and then moved them all to the Third Party category. - Nowhere
